Absentee Property Law zionist Law adopted in March 1950, classifying anyone who was a citizen or resident of one of the Arab states or a Palestinian citizen on 29 Nov. 1947 but had left his place of residence, even to take refuge within Palestine, as an ‘absentee’. Absentee property was vested in the custodian of absentee property who then ‘sold’ it to the Development Authority, empowered by the Knesset. This authorized the theft of the property of a million Arabs, seized by Israel in 1948.
