Palestinian ministry of education bans swimming during school trips


Ma'an – The Palestinian ministry of education has banned swimming during school trips after a boy drowned in a swimming pool in Jericho last week.10-year-old Yasser Abd Al-Baqi from Bizaria, Nablus district, drowned in a swimming pool in the Popeye Park in Jericho on April 19.
Sources from the education told the Ramallah-based Al-Hayat Al-Jadida newspaper the ministry's strict directives regarding safety on school trips had not been followed. According to the source, the previous directive stated that a paramedic had to accompany each school trip and teachers had to make sure that if the children were taken to a swimming pool a lifeguard had to be present.
